This is my father...a complex, sometimes misunderstood man, but a man that loved his family. It was hard for him to express his affection but I always knew he loved me and was proud of me. The two of us were always very close. When I was growing up his restless spirit kept us moving around a lot. He always seemed to think the pasture would be greener over in the next county or state...it never was!

We were a working family. Times were hard and we did just about everything to put food on the table...from working in the fruit to picking cotton to delivering advertising flyers from house to house. Daddy could always find the work and the family was usually right by his side in it. We never really considered this hard times...it was just the way of our life.

Daddy would try to lose his problems in his drink. He liked beer and did over indulge which caused problems for us. However, in his later years he gave that up and accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. Seeing him baptized was a blessed day for me..and for my dear mother. I was baptized when I was just a young girl but decided I wanted to be baptized again next to my father. I could tell he was happy that I would be there with him..as usual he never voiced his approval..but I knew and understood.

That Sunday the church had their baptism at the nearby lake. It was a very special day for all of us. Afterwards, for the first time in my life, I could see my father was content within himself...when he was baptized I guess he left that restless spirit at the bottom of the lake! I miss him terribly...but find comfort in knowing he is now where the pasture is "forever" greener.
