Betty Lou O'Brien – 91 passed away Saturday, May 3, 2008 in Stratford, Texas. Services will be held at 2:00 PM, May 7, 2008 at First Christian Church, Stratford, with Rev. David White, pastor of First Baptist Church, Texhoma, officiating. Burial will be in Stratford Cemetery. Arrangements are by Morrison Funeral Directors.
Betty O'Brien was born September 27, 1916 in Stratford, Texas to Jesse and Elizabeth J O'Brien. She graduated from Stratford High School with the class of 1934. Her first teaching assignment was fifth grade with the Stratford school. She then moved to Los Angeles where she taught school for many years. Upon her retirement she moved back to Stratford in 1976. Betty O'Brien loved to travel and had traveled to all seven continents. She attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II of England. She was a member of the First Christian Church, a Sunday school teacher, a member of Eastern Star and Beta Sigma Phi Sorority. Her hobbies were reading, photography and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, June Beth O'Brien.
Survivors include; her cousins, Mary Lee Montgomery of Boise City, Okla, John Frank Dixon of Bovina, Mary Hazel Hill of Amarillo, Dixie Lee Dixon of Colorado, Walter Vincent, Jack and Sisty Vincent, Kenneth and Bobbie Strong all of Stratford, Mike and Julie Berry of Texhoma, Okla; numerous other cousins; special friends, William Glenn and Joyce Hart and family of Stratford and Joe and Yonda Carrow and family of California.
