Son of Henry and ? Aechternacht; he was a brakeman and later conductor for the Kansas Pacific Railroad and later the Missouri Pacific Railway. In 1883 he opened a retail establishment in Wyandotte, Kansas. He was member of Blue Lodge, A., F. & A. M., Royal Arch Masons, Knight Templars, Knights of Pythias, and a member of the order of Railway Conductors of the United States and Canada.
