OBITUARY - DAVID PAUL PACE
David Paul Pace, Ph.D., 52, died November 7, 2008, in Gainesville, Florida. Dr. Pace was born in Duval County, FL on April 18, 1956. He was a physicist and computer engineer who received a B.A. in English from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in Physics from Leningrad Polytechnic Institute (now St. Petersburg Polytechnic) in the former U.S.S.R. He taught physics at Rice University and at Leningrad Polytechnic and co-authored many articles on physics in scientific journals. He also worked for NASA at the Johnson Space Center in Houston and for Bell Labs. He was named Microsoft VIP of 2000 and recently worked in computing in Gainesville. A gifted and multi-talented individual, Dr. Pace wrote several screenplays, and, with Professor E.C. Barksdale of the University of Florida, the book "As Dreams Are Made on: The Probable Worlds of a New Human Mind as Presaged in Quantum Physics, Information Theory, Modal Philosophy, and Literary Myth" (Libra Press, 1988).
Dr. Pace is survived by his wife Windy Morgan Pace and his son Austin Piper Pace, and by his parents Paul C. Pace III and Alice W. Pace and his brother Michael, all of Gainesville, Florida. Services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2008, 11:00 am, at the WILLIAMS-THOMAS FUNERAL HOME 404 North Main Street.
