Marlon Wayne Bates Obituary


Marlon Wayne Bates, of Tullahoma, passed this life on Friday, February 23rd, 2024 at Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Nashville at the age of 87. Mr. Bates was born in Etheridge, Tennessee to the late Clarence and Lola Dooley Bates. During his life he served his country in the Air National Guard and went on to work as a Design Engineer at Jacobs Engineering. He was also a member of Highland Baptist Church in Tullahoma. Mr. Bates was preceded in by his mother and father, Clarence and Lola Bates; and his step-mother, Helen Bates. He is survived by his wife, Josephine Bates; two sons, Roger (Kim) Bates, and Terry (Robin) Bates; one brother, Gaylon (Cindy) Bates; one sister, Carolyn Brannon; five grandchildren, Rebecca Bates, Rachel (David) Westbrook, Clay Bates, Olivia (Justin) Tardiff, and Alyssa Bates; and three great-grandchildren, Walker, Eliza, and Molly. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 27th, 2024 at Kilgore Funeral Home from 4:00-7:00pm. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 28th, 2024 at Highland Baptist Church at 11:00am with Pastor Jim Norman officiating.

For those who wish, in lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Highland Baptist Church in Tullahoma.
