Rev. Jack H. Cooke, 91, formerly of 806 Hawthorne Street, Cherryville, died Sunday night September 23, 2012 at Clare Bridge Memory Care Center in Winston Salem. He was born June 24, 1921 in Maiden, NC, the son of the late James O. Cooke and Rosa A. Cooke. He graduated from Brevard College. Lenoir Rhyne College, and Duke Divinity School. Jack served pastorates at Harmony Charge, Boulevard UMC in Statesville, Pleasant Grove UMC in Charlotte, First United Methodist in Cherryville, and St. Paul's in Asheville. Rev. Cooke served as the Industrial Chaplain of Carolina Freight Carriers Corporation in Cherryville from 1960 through 1987. During his tenure as chaplain, he also served as a guest minister in numerous churches, revival services, and camp meetings. He was names Pastor Emeritus of first United Methodist Church in Cherryville and Honorary Pastor of First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville.

In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his wife of sixty four years Willa in 2007, his four older sisters Leslie, Flossie, Crete, and Louise, his three older brothers Harold, Fred, and Lewis.

He is survived by his two sons Jack H, Cooke, Jr. and wife Carolyn of Winston Salem and Charles W. "Bill" Cooke and wife Carolyn of New London, four grandsons Chris Blackwood(Leslie), Chad Cooke(Holly), Clay Cooke(Bekah) and Cody Cooke(Johanna), and six great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Thursday at First United Methodist Church of Cherryville at 3 PM with Rev. Cooke's grandsons, Dr. Chad Cooke and Mr. Clay Cooke and Rev. Rick Fite officiating. Burial will in City Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church Thursday from 1-2:45 PM. .

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church, 601 N. Pink St., Cherryville, NC 28021.
