August Wilhelm Theodor Gundlach was born Sept. 20, 1861, in Gros Poplow, Kreis Belgard, Germany. He was the son of Karl Daniel Friedrich Gundlach and Wilhelmine Ernstine Karoline Rossman. He arrived in the Port of Baltimore on April 13, 1887. August married Mathilde/Tillie Lickfelt/Lickfet on Aug. 13, 1892. They were the parents of Edward Carl Johann Gundlach and Lena Elsa Anna Gundlach. August and Mathilde were divorced on Dec. 12, 1900. August died on Nov. 4, 1929 from pneumonia after being struck and knocked down by an automobile.
