George W. Dennis, 72, resident of this community 64 years, was killed instantly Friday evening at 6:30 when struck by an automobile on highway 169 approximately 1 1/2 miles north of North Kansas City, Missouri. He had gone to Kansas City Thursday with his son, George, on a business
mission and they were on the way home when the accident happened. Stopping on the east side of the 4 lane highway they crossed to a roadside restaurant for supper. After eating they started back to the truck, but stopped when
they saw 2 cars coming form the north, none from the south. The 2 southbound cars passed them and in a few seconds a north bound car came along having dropped over a hill from the south. George Dennis Jr. was only a step or two behind his father and before he knew it his father was struck by a buick sedan driven at a high rate of speed by a hotel manager from Liberty Missouri.
The younger Dennis was close enough that he was knocked down by the car but not injured. His father was carried 120 feet on the bumper of the car, his left leg cut in two 1/2 way between the knee and ankle, the right leg and
both arms broken. There was a bad bruise on his side and his head appeared to have been dragged on the concrete road.
George Dennis, oldest of three children of William and Adaline Dennis was born in Sycamore DeKalb County Illinois, March 17, 1867 and passed away Friday October 13, 1939 in Kansas City Missouri at the age of 72 years 6
months and 26 days. When he was 3 years old he moved with his parents to Utica Missouri where they lived 5 years, then moved to Prussia township near Fontanelle Iowa
where he grew to manhood. In the year 1892 he married to Amanda Shaver of Fontanelle and they lived practically all of their married life in Fontanelle. They became the
parents of nine children, eight of whom survive. The eldest, Addie Rice, passed away January 23, 1917.
Surviving children are, George W. Dennis of Fontanelle, Parley Dennis, Mrs. Ruth Curtis and Mrs. Lulu Marrrow of Omaha; Mrs. Tess Deaker, Janesville Wisconsin; Mrs. Mabel Fletcher, Cumberland Iowa; Mrs. Millie George and Mrs.
Nellie Peterson of Omaha. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mrs. Anna Betts of Omaha and Mrs. Zillah
Vanderover of Loveland Colorado, as well as 34 grandchildren and seven great grandchildren and a host of friends.
