You just don't know what a character my Aunt Ruby was....I'll never forget the first time I met her...when she moved to Moberly, Missouri. She talked very "fast," and had kind of a shrill voice. I was just a little girl, and listened with amazement when she talked.
she bought a house over on 4th St., which had four appartments; she rented out three...and lived in the fourth. At first, she lived in the smallest apartment, her living room & bedroom were one room. Ruby had lots of interesting things in her apartment. I know, she eventually moved into one of the larger apartments...that had a separate living room & bedroom.
Ruby never drove a car, and walked everywhere she needed to go...I suppose, the reason she stayed so slim and trim all of her life....was because she walked so much.
She worked downtown Moberly, as a secretary for a lawyer...and worked until well into her late seventies. Ruby walked to church every Sunday, as well as special events at her church.
We went to visit her quite often...I stayed with her on occasion when my parents went somewhere....She always came to our house for Special dinners and especially Chirstmas Eve...
She never wanted to put anyone out...and was always saying..."Now you don't have to do that."
Numerous Dickey relatives spoke very fondly of "Aunt Ruby"...she had two failed marriages, and never had any children....as a result, her neices & nephews were very important to her....
Ruby was only three years old when her mother died...she was raised by her older sister, Dessie in Moberly.
Sadly, Ruby succombed to Alzheimer's in her later years...and passed away in a Nursing home.
