James A. (Jim) Abston was born Dec. 1, 1869 in Willow Grove Tennessee to Mr. and Mrs. Lipscomb Pettit (Lip) Abston. He married Amanda Belle Davis in Tennessee. He passed away Jan. 29, 1929. They were parents to 14 children, 9 of whom survived. With their 9 children, Mr. & Mrs. Abston left their home in Peytonsburg, Kentucky by wagon for Bowling Green Kentucky, a trip that took them 2 days. They boarded a train there and made their way to Vernon Texas in October 1904. They lived in the Rayland Community until 1916 when they moved to Thalia. They were ardent workers in the Church of Christ. Their children were Leslie, Burtis, Winnie, Ethel, Claude, Bob, Tom, Jimmie and Belle.
