Jane Louisa Sharpe was born to James Sharpe (1803-1887) and Jane Nugent Treglohan (1812-1864) in the parish of St George's in the East, London. She married William Robert Hooper about 1854. They had at least five children, Rosina (Rose) (1860-1885), William James (1863- ), Arthur Ernest (1867- ), Jane Louisa (1869- possibly 1872) and Alice Ada (1874-1915). Jane was pregnant with Alice when her husband William died in Dec. 1873. Alice was born in May 1874. Jane went on to marry William Giggins Ashby (1841-1922), a locksmith, widower, with three daughters, 20 Sep 1880 at St. Luke's Church, Hackney. In the 1881 census, her daughter Alice Ada was living with them at 5 Alice Place, Berger Road, Homerton.
Jane died 1 Jan. 1884 at their home on Lea Terrace, Glyn Road, Lower Clapton. She was buried in Manor Park Cemetery on 7 Jan. 1884 in a common grave with seven others.
The burial register for Manor Park says she was 47 years old at the time of her death. That would place her birth year as about 1837. On the other hand, family trees on Ancestry give her birth date as 1 Aug 1831. This is confirmed in the baptism register of St George's in the East. She was baptized 13 Nov. 1831.
