Vernon R. "Bugg" Crandall Sr., 84, of 900 Wheelock Road, Kennedy, and Avon Park, Fla., passed away at Friday (March 12, 2010), in Florida Hospital Heartland Division, Sebring, Fla.
A lifelong area resident, he was born July 2, 1925, in Jamestown, the son of the late Howard D. and Kathleen Penfield Crandall.
He was a 1943 graduate of Falconer High School, and in earlier years was self-employed from 1945 to 1953 at the former Three Gables Stations and Esso Station in Kennedy. He was also employed by Lundine Oil Company, Carborundum and later by Falconer Central School as transportation supervisor, retiring in 1986.
He was a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, Vintage Aircraft Association, Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association, Poland Senior Citizens, I.O.O. F Chadakoin Lodge 130 for 60-plus years, charter member of the Sons of the American Legion, Life member of the Kennedy Fire Department, and attended Kennedy United Methodist Church. He was also a former assessor and supervisor for the town of Poland.
He has held his private pilot's license since 1945 and enjoyed flying, traveling, cruising and square dancing.
He is survived by his wife, Beth M. Williams Crandall, whom he married Aug, 17, 1991, in Kennedy; two sons: Daryl Crandall and Vernon R. Crandall Jr., both of Kennedy; two step sons: Marc Leege of Blaine, Wash., and Roger Leege of Tolland, Conn.; two grandchildren: John Crandall of Adel, Ga., and Susan Kehrli of Gerry; three step grandchildren: Tracy Leege, Travis and Mason Leege, all of North Haven, Conn.; two great-grandchildren: Rachael and Collin Kehrli, both of Gerry; a brother, Rodney Crandall of Jamestown; and a sister, Carol Everett of Falconer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Evelynn M. Stone Crandall, whom he married Feb. 23, 1946, who died Jan. 10, 1991; two brothers: Dr. Clarence Crandall and Merwin Crandall.
