Erna Carrell entered this life November 7, 1900 at DeSoto, TX. She spent her childhood in DeSoto and was a graduate of DeSoto High School. She received her teaching certificate from East Texas State. Teaching elementary students at DeSoto was her first job. She also taught in Falls, Texas then went to work for Southern Steel. After the closed, she worked for Conly-Lott-Nichols Machinery Company until her retirement in the early 1960s.

She gained a whole family all at once when she married Bill Billings in 1946. Erna loved and cared for Bill's family as if it were her own flesh and blood. Erna and Bill shared 28 years of marriage until his death in 1974.

Her dedication to her church she loved so much was a pastor's dream. Always present, helping, and serving when needed. She held numerous offices in the church, United Methodist Women, and W.F.C. class.

Erna was a very active person and participated in all of life. She graduated from this life on January 26, 1987 to find her new home with the God she so loved and served.
