FLETCHER Marcus Leo (Mark), 68, died at 12:30pm on Sat., Oct 18, at home with wife, family, friends, & Amber, Good Shepherd Hospice RN, beside him, of INHERITED colon cancer. Services 1:00p.m. Thursday, Oct 23, Gene Adams Funeral Chapel, 3925 N. Asbury, Bethany. Masonic Ceremony at Bethany Cemetery, 63rd & Rockwell, followed by a memorial reminiscing dinner at PCCC Fellowship Hall 5711 NW 42nd between MacArthur & Grove. Memorial contributions can be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, POB 32272, OKC , OK 73123 who cared for him the last 50 days. Born Feb 07 1929 near Holdenville, OK to Robert Printis & Lena May (SCOTT) FLETCHER. He attended Capitol Heights School, Holdenville, & Noon Springs School in rural Hughes CO. Completed his High School studies in the U.S. Army after which he continued his education in night classes at OCU, OSU, & OU. Enlisted in the U.S. Army 04 Sept 1947 at McAlester, OK; received decorations & citations "Army of Occupation Medal Japan" & was Honorably Discharged 29 J uly 1949 at Ft Lawton, Seattle, WA. He married Miss Charlcie Pauline CARLTON at Clayton, NM on May 27 1950. Four children were born of this union. He moved his family to Bethany, his wife's former home, in search of work which he found Sept 1952 at Aero Design & Engineering (now known as Gulfstream Aerospace Technologies Inc) where he retired May 1989 with 37 years loyal service. "I'M A CHRISTIAN" Marcus & his son, Milt, were "converted & baptized" at Putnam City Christian Church on August 30 1970 by Rev. Garold DUNN, pastor. Pauline tells of one testimony during his illness when at bedtime she ask, "Are we ready to say our bedtime prayers?" He answered, "I don't have to wait for a designated bedtime to pray, I pray all the time." He was initiated in the Westwood Masonic Lodge (1958 ) & demitted to the Bethany Masonic Lodge 529; Served as Worthy Patron (1969) of Putnam City Chapter 477 currently an affiliated Past Patron at Bethlehem Chapter. He held several Grand Appointments 1970 to 1973. He was an organizing member of the HAPPY S TAR CLUB of the family of Fern LUDDINGTON, PGM, & Dick McCLELLAND, PGP. He served as board member of the Putnam City Assembly 170, International Order of the Rainbow for Girls from 1968-1971. He was awarded the 32 of the Scottish Rite at the Valley of Guthrie on February 21, 1976. OTHER ACTIVITIES He was an ORGANIZING MEMBER of: Commander Men; Gulfstream Employees Club & the OK Genealogical Society Member 31 (1959); LIFE MEMBER Wayne CO TN & Org. L/Mbr Washington CO AR Historical Societies. MEMBER: NGS; NSSAR 114635, O.S.N.S.S.A.R. certificates dated 05 January 1979. Rev. Ancestor: Robert FLETCHER, SR. Served on Westside YMCA Fund Raising Committee for Bethany YMCA; attended Ground Breaking Friday, Dec 18 1959. He was an org. member of the Bethany YMCA Little League Baseball & TriCity Athletic Assn charter-organizing mbr in its beginning in the Bethany/Putnam City area. He assisted in the coaching baseball teams for both groups. SQUARE DANCING was another mental & physical exercise during the 5Os & 60's; 1st VP (Mbrshp Chairman 1958/59) Guys & Dolls of Edmond; Served as Central District Square Dance Association Social Committee doing addressograph mail outs in 1960-61. AVID SPORTS FAN; SOONER FOOTBALL DONOR SPONSOR missing very few O.U. SOONER HOME FOOTBALL games in 34 years at OU and the Sooners won for him Saturday shortly after his passing. GOLF was another sport & favorite pastime through the years. Other hobbies included hunting, fishing, Genealogical research, Scholarly study, crossword puzzles, his dogs and all other animals, television & breeding-raising-training gamefowl. He was an active member of UGBA & OGBA for 20 years. He earned world-wide fame & numerous friends with his talent of breeding, feeding, training game fowl. GOOD-BYE, MY LOVE: His passing will leave a void in hearts of every family member & numerous faithful friends especially those with whom he worked for 37 years & have been so very attentive to him to the end. HE was a loyal, devoted, faithful husband, father, gf & ggf who dearly loved his family, extended family & friends. He was a man of few words, a true individualist, & his innovative ways caused people to sit up & take notice. He was a listener. He didn't talk much but when he spoke-people listened. He had a unique type of personal magnetism that attracted others to him. He had no interest in following the crowd. He was content when alone with his immediate family. His residence was a peaceful, quiet haven to retreat & to rest. His stability was indicative of his strong parental influence. He prided himself in being different-Nothing could bore him more than being considered "average". He demonstrated complete loyalty & devotion to both family & friends. Imbued with enormous drive & a willingness to work hard, he found success in his chosen endeavors. He was a thinker. He had a good brain. He never wanted to rush into anything. He took time to think before doing it especially when it involved money as he was a depression baby born in 1929. He never wanted his family to experience need nor hunger & Thank God, we never had to. He ask me not to print anything that I knew would embarrass him and I certainly hope this will not, but the one thing that he had a horror of was a funeral with a chapel full of empty seats. He personally extends to all his friends an invitation to his Memorial & the Celebration Dinner following.
