The influenza has been raging almost unchecked at Olathe for some time past and has claimed many victims. Among those who have succumbed to the disease was Mrs. Laura Moffitt Dawson, wife of Mayor Carl Dawson of Olathe. Mrs. Dawson was born and reared in Olathe, and enjoyed a wide acquaintance over the western slope.

In the death of Mrs. Laura Moffitt Dawson, beloved young wife of Mayor Carl Dawson of Olathe, that little city lost one of its finest young women and most beloved citizens. Mrs. Dawson succumbed Saturday at 1:30 p.m., Red Cross hospital in this city, after an illness of several days from pneumonia following an attack of influenza. Mrs. Dawson was brot to the hospital a few days before her death. Mrs. Dawson was born at Olathe and was twenty-eight year of age, she is the eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Moffitt, pioneers of Olathe, but now residents at Monte Vista. Mrs. Moffitt was called to Montrose on account of her daughter's illness, and reached this city the night before the patient passed to her reward. At the present time, Mrs. Moffitt and Mayor Dawson and little Frances Dawson are all seriously ill with pneumonia. Deceased was a devoted member of the Methodist church and was very active in Christian and temperance work, and took an active work[sic] in all matters pertaining to the upbuilding and betterment of her home town. The family for a good many years have lived at Olathe and are prominent there. Ten or eleven years ago deceased became the bride of Mr. Dawson and three children were born to them, two preceding the mother in death. Evelin, the baby of the family lost her life in an accident when she fell from a wagon last spring. The surviving child in Frances now about 8 years of age. Beside her sorrow stricken husband and parents and little daughter, Mrs. Dawson is survived by a sister and two brothers, Mrs. Norvan Crandell and W. C. and Paul Moffitt all of Olathe. The funeral was conducted by Undertaker C. L .Hawley at Olathe cemetery Monday afternoon at 3:30 and many friends were in the cortege that followed the remains of the young woman to the last resting place. A large and exquisite floral tribute was the token of many friends.
