Son of Avery 'Lou' Jewell and Sarah Elizabeth (Altis) Jewell.

Lawrence Edward Jewell, 89, of Thayer, MO, was born Oct. 11, 1915 in Thayer, MO, the son of Avery Lou Jewell and Sarah Elizabeth Autus Jewell. He died Feb. 18, 2005 in West Plains, MO. He was married Oct. 1, 1943, in Salem, AR, to Maggie Lorene Carter who preceded him in death Feb. 22, 1992.
During World War II he was a shipbuilder, working in the shipyards in California.
He was a hard worker, working all of his life as a farmer and lumberjack and was well known for making and selling cedar post.
He was a talented musician and enjoyed singing, and was a devout Christian, a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by his family and friends.
Survivors include six children, Henry Jewell and wife, Ruth, of Thayer, MO; Johnny Jewell and wife, Judy, of Thayer, MO; Jimmy Jewell of the home in Thayer, MO; Alice Adams of Spingfield, MO; Teddy Jewell of Thayer, MO; and Patsy Lee Eagleburger and husband, Eric, of Walnut Grove, MO; a step-son, Claude Smith; and a step-daughter, Janie Sue Jones; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; an infant son, Lloyd Wayne Jewell; a step-son, Joe Smith; two brothers, Roy Jewell and Sammy Jewell; and four sisters, Edith Harris, Ruby Jewell, Julie Phillips and Ada Oliver.
The funeral service was Feb. 21 at Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, MO with the Rev. Wayne Hurst officiating. Burial was in the Shiloh Grand Gulf Cemetery with arrangements under the direction of Carter Funeral Home.
