J. Hugh Courson of Palatka, Florida, passed away peacefully Monday at the age of 85 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the son of the late Charlie L. and Mary Jane Courson.
Hugh had lived in Putnam County since 1961, coming from Tampa. He had worked for Central States in Palatka for 20 years and later owned and operated Morgan's Land Cleaning in Palatka. Hugh was a member of Open Bible Baptist Church in East Palatka. He especially enjoyed his dogs, Bubba and Bella.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by siblings, Ruby Crump, Harold, Herbert, David and Elouise Courson; and a grandson, Michael Blankenship.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Bettie Courson; children, Tammy (Buddy) Wilkinson, Tina (Mikey) Courson, Glen (Gidgett) Courson, and Tony (Jessica) Courson; grandchildren, Travis (Sabrina) Wilkinson, Daniel (Rene) Wilkinson, Jeffery Wilkinson, Mistie (Toby) Blankenship, Kelley (Buddy) Holbrook, and Jarrett (Kailee) Courson; great-grandchildren, Hailey and Alyssa Lansing, Kendall and Keegan Wilkinson, Jeffery and KyliAnn Wilkinson, Hunter Wilkinson, Jarrett Austin, Madisyn (Andrew) Terron, Gavin Menefee, Dylan Holbrook, and Jase and Bennett Courson; and two brothers, Johnny Courson and Dennis Courson.
Funeral services were at 11 am Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka with Pastor Larry Litzell officiating.
