Obituary

CARENCRO ~ Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 20, 2024 at a 2:00 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Carencro for Marcel John Babineaux, age 86, who passed away Friday, February 16, 2024 at his residence in Carencro.


Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens in Lafayette. The Rev. Msgr. Russell Harrington will officiate at the services.


Mr. Babineaux was born August 30, 1937 to the late Alcee Babineaux and the former Bernadette Hernandez in Cankton. He was a resident of Carencro for fifty years having been a parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church. A veteran of the military, Mr. Babineaux proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean Era from 1956 to 1958.


In 1965, Marcel and a few of his buddies opened Gulf South Printing & Specialties out of a garage apartment and upon their successes, expanded their business to Vermillion Street where the business flourished for fifty-nine years. Upon retirement, he enjoyed bowling, caring for his yard, carpentry work, fishing, and playing cards.


Marcel was a man of few words and his memory will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends. His legacy is etched in the hearts of his loved ones, who will carry his lessons and love forward.


Survivors include his devoted wife of sixty-one years, Betty Lavergne Babineaux; two daughters, Nina Bearb and her husband, Dion, of Carencro and Monique B. Braquet and her husband, Jared; five grandchildren, Jessica Guillotte and her husband, Lance, Derek Savant and his wife, Brittany, Beth Peltier and her husband, Logan, Jude Braquet, and Jase Braquet; and one great granddaughter, Raegan Savant.


He was preceded in death by his son, Craig James Babineaux; his parents, Alcee Babineaux and the former Bernadette Hernandez; four brothers, Weston Babineaux, Alcide Babineaux, Wilton Babineaux and Malcolm Babineaux; and one sister, Sybil Comeaux.


A rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home by Annette Richard.


The family requests that visiting hours be observed from 10:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. Monday and will continue from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Tuesday.


The family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to the members and staff of Traditions Health and Hospice for their excellent care and support during his illness.


Pallbearers will be Jared Braquet, Dion Bearb, Jude Braquet, Jase Braquet, Anthony Babineaux, and Derek Savant. Honorary pallbearers will be Logan Peltier and Lance Guillotte.
