Richard ran a small cafe in Winnsboro, Texas. One night he was
delivering a hamburger to a customer in Boggs Photographers Studio. It seems this was the place the men met to socialize. Two men began to argue over a dice game. When one of them, Mr. Boggs, pulled a gun and shot; the other man,
Ranklin Milner, pulled Richard in front of himself. This all took
Place around 8:00 pm. Richard was shot in the stomach and had thirteen holes in his intestines. Dr George Baber who attended him would do nothing until Richard's brother, George Kelly Ayers, could be contacted to see if he would pay the bill. This was not until 2:00 am. By this gangreene had set in.
Richard died Jan.1,1932 leaving Artie with nine children, the youngest
between 2 1/2 to 3 yrs. old.
