Margaret Elizabeth "Betty" Robinson Frain, June 23 rd. , 1939 – February 8 th , 2024

Elizabeth "Betty" Robinson Frain passed away on February 8 th , 2024, surrounded by love

and family. Born Margaret Elizabeth in Washington D.C., she was known as Betty to most and

"B.R." to her husband of 63 years, Henry Hugh Frain. Betty grew up in Arlington, VA and

attended George Washington University, where she was a proud member of the Delta Gamma

sorority.

Betty had a passion for genealogy and spent much of her adult life tracing family lines

and cataloguing old stones until she had a database of over 37,000 entries, all related to herself

or another family member. Her work has been cited by the Washington Post and, in 2013, Betty

received the Loudon History Award for her contributions in helping to preserve the history of

Loudon County, VA. Betty published several books on the subject and her face always lit up

when she told her family of a new connection, photo, or story she had come across.

Betty had a knack for picking up new skills. When her husband's company needed a

technical writer, she took on the roll with no experience, and accomplished a task, which was

expected to take years, in a matter of months. She excelled at macramé and attended several

craft shows, which led her to an interest in miniatures. She went on to run a successful

dollhouse and miniature shop in Kensington, MD. All of her grandchildren now enjoy Afghan

blankets made by her own two hands.

Betty is survived by her family her memory and grace

will live on in the stories and family histories passed down from generation to generation, the

idea of which would have brought her great joy.
