Stanley Lloyd Anshus departed his earthly body on February 7, 2024. He was was born in Boston Lying-In Hospital on May 30, 1937, the son of the Rev. Dr. Oskar Eriksen Anshus and Anna Larsen (Sirevåg) Anshus. During and after World War II, while his father served as an Army chaplain, the family lived in Brooklyn and on various Army bases, finally settling in South Carolina after the war. Due to the untimely deaths of both parents, Stan and his sister were gifted with a second family when Isaac Post (Jolly) Pitts and Carolyn Lindler Pitts, of Camden, opened their hearts and home to them in 1957.

Stan was a graduate of Camden High School and was one of the last survivors of his loyal band of classmates. He graduated from the University of South Carolina (Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity) and remained an avid Gamecock until his death. His career began with Dun and Bradstreet, after which he transitioned through various job experiences before his early-diagnosed heart disease led to long-term physical disability.

Following in his father's footsteps, Stan was a lifelong Baptist and was currently a member of First Baptist Church of Irmo He loved all of his large, extended, blended family. Stan was a man small of stature but big of heart.

Survivors include his John's Island High School sweetheart and wife of thirty-eight years, Jennie Jeffers Meyer Anshus; his daughters, Dana Anshus (Steve) Asbill, Kay Anshus (Harrill) Harrill, Tia Anshus Sweat, and Jenny Anshus (Patrick) Bowers; his stepchildren, Lisa Meyer (Rodney) West, Wally (Lorri) Meyer, and Tony (Tammy) Meyer; his siblings, Ann Anshus Quattlebaum, Nancy Pitts (Van) Johnson, and Ikey (Michelle) Pitts; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren; numerous nieces/nephews and grand-nieces/nephews, and unquantifiable Norwegian cousins and Pitts/Lindler cousins. 

He was preceded in death by both sets of parents, his sister Becky Pitts Cheatham, his brother Doug Pitts, his stepdaughter Mary Catherine Meyer, and his stepson Jeff Meyer.


Celebration of Life Service: 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at the graveside in Bush River Memorial Gardens, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC.
