Waneta Worth Stone, 93, died peacefully at home on January 31, surrounded by her children.

She was born in Island Pond, Vermont on July 20, 1930, to Sarah and Riley Worth, the youngest of four children. Waneta grew up enjoying family farm life, especially riding her horse in the beauty of the Northeast Kingdom. She attended Derby Academy and Burlington Business College before moving to Orlando, Florida in her twenties. At GMAC she met her husband, Carlos Stone, and joined his large Tallahassee family, adding four children of their own: Valerie, Mark, Tawni and Terri.

Waneta was an active volunteer at her children's school, Blessed Sacrament, and as a Girl Scout Leader and Council Board Member. Waneta and Carlos were members of the 20th Century crew of Springtime Tallahassee for many years and Waneta served as General Chair of Springtime Tallahassee 1984-1985. Taking up tennis in her fifties, she found many treasured friends and enjoyed playing until she was eighty-nine. Her bridge, mahjong, and "lunch bunch" friends were also dear to her. Waneta enjoyed a lifetime of gardening and sewing, which included the sewing of her eldest daughter's wedding gown.

Waneta was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Carlos Stone, and all her siblings: Phyllis Armstrong, Janice Fox, and Cyril Worth. She is survived by three daughters and two sons in law: a son; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. She will also be missed by the extended Stone family, to which her husband was the eldest of ten.

"Waneta"- "Mom"-"Gram" will be remembered for her New Englander can-do spirit and her love for family and friends. A memorial service will be held at Bevis Funeral Home on Saturday, February 10, 2024 at 5:00 p.m. Memorial contributions in her honor are suggested to Girl Scouts of Gateway Council or The Salvation Army.
