At eleven-thirty Thursday evening, March 7, 1940, the Loving Heavenly Father called home to be with Himself, a dearly beloved father, friend, and neighbor, Thomas Isom Dennis. Although he had not for some time been in the best of health, Mr. Dennis lived as active, busy life to the last. His death came as a surprise and shock to his family and friends. His passing was caused by a heart attack. Tom Dennis, as he was known to his many friends, was 73 years old. He was born May 13, 1866 at Lebanon, Mo. On Nov 8, 1884 at Grove Springs, Mo he was married to Lucretia Morehouse. Through the happy years into the eventide of life, they walked together. Only a little over a year ago, on Dec 5, 1938, his loved companion preceded him to the heavenly home.

Mr. Dennis and his family came to Buhl in 1914. Here he resided until his death with the exception of 3 years that he lived at Boise. There he was a guard at State Prison. For thirteen years he was Buhl night marshal and 3 years day marshal. Before coming to Idaho, he was a blacksmith and woodworker.

At the time of Mrs. Dennis's death, they had been married 54 years. Four children were born to this union, two sons and two daughters. They were Estella, Don, John and Lulu. Two of these have died. John and Lulu survive. After the death of Estella. Mrs. Henry Massy, her little daughter, Veda, went to the home of her grandparents. Veda Dennis, as she thenceforth was known, grew up as a daughter in her new home.

Most of his life Mr. Dennis knew Jesus as his personal Savior and was a member of the Baptist church. He was a member of the first Baptist Church of Buhl.

He is well-known in our community. His friends were many. They will forget his happy, friendly disposition of witch (which) his jolly laugh was a characteristic expression. He was a lover of music, especially the gospel songs. In Missouri he was a leader in the singing schools.

Mr. Dennis leaves to mourn his departure a son, Mr. John Dennis of Buhl, a daughter, Mrs. Lulu Jackson, Tekamah, Nebraska who is not able to be present at this service, three sisters, seventeen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and a host of friends.

W.G. Downing, pastor of the First Baptist church, Buhl, conducted the services in the church, Sunday, March 10, 1940, at 2:30 p.m. The Odd Fellows Lodge officiated at the graveside.

A quartet-Earl Allen, M.R. Pielstick, W.L. Kyles and Donald Hyder sang: WE ARE GOING DOWN THE VALLEY, HOW HEAVEN MUST BE and ROCK OF AGES.
