Vernon H. Beseth Ret. Asst. Civil Engr., 73
Vernon H. Beseth of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a retired assistant Civil Engineer for the New York City Board of Water Supply, died Thursday, November 27, 2003, (the 49th wedding anniversary of he and his wife) at the Wilson Memorial Hospital in Johnson City. He was 73 years of age.
The son of the late Harvey John and Vilda Adelaide Sprague Beseth, he was born March 21, 1930, in Liberty.
A 1947 graduate of Liberty High School, he attended Clarkson College in Potsdam and graduated from Hartwick College in 1957 with a BA in Mathematics. Mr. Beseth served in the U. S. Army from 1952-1954 during the Korean War. He was an active member of St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church and was a past council member and a current choir member. Mr. Beseth was a volunteer fireman of 49 years, a past president, treasurer and secretary of Liberty Hose & Truck Co. #2; and a past president of the Sullivan County Firefighters' Association.
He is survived by his wife, Beverly Blake Beseth, at home; two sons, Senior Master Sergeant Paul H. Beseth and his fiancée, Cindy Degen of Newburgh, and Major William E. Beseth and his wife, Mickie of Fort Polk, La.; a daughter and son-in-law, Katye and Jim Barbehenn of Liberty; a brother, William H. Beseth of Liberty; six grandchildren, Jamie, Sean, Kimberly and Christopher Barbehenn and Dalton and Alexa Beseth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Firematic Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Liberty Central Firehouse, 256 Sprague Ave., Liberty.
A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Liberty with the Rev. Audrey Pedersen officiating.
Cremation was private.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Restoration Fund,. 26 Chestnut St., or to the Liberty Hose and Truck Co. #2, 256 Sprague Ave., both at Liberty, N.Y. 12754.

Survivors include his loving wife, Beverly Blake Beseth, at home. She and Vernon wee married on Nov. 27, 1954 and were celebrating their 49th wedding anniversary when Vernon passed away. Other survivors include two sons, Senior Master Sergeant Paul H. Beseth and his fiancee Cindy D. of Newburgh and Major William E. Beseth and his wife Mickie of Fort Polk, Louisiana; one daughter, Katye Barbehenn and her husband Jim of Liberty; a brother, William H. Beseth of Liberty; six grandchildren, Jamie, Sean, Kimberly and Christopher Barbehenn and Dalton and Alexa Beseth; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
There will be no calling hours.
Cremation took place at the convenience of the family.
Firematic Services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, at 7:30 p.m. at the Liberty Central Firehouse, 256 Sprague Ave., Liberty, NY.
A Memorial Service will take place on Thursday, December 4 at 11 a.m. at the St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Liberty. The Rev. Audrey Pedersen will officiate.
