Grandfather was born Cornelious William Harper Key, to Rachel Key Mathis and Jim Farley, but he changed his name to Nelius Kee after 1940. As a small child, he was raised by his step-father, William Mathis. (The family lived on Star Route in Lawndale, NC in 1947.)

He was a hard worker. A Mason of Clover Hill Lodge, grandpa enjoyed hunting and his dog J.J. given to him by us grandchildren in Augusta, Georgia. He retired from many faithful years of service to Burlington Industries.

He cherished his life with his beautiful wife, Rosie Mae Griffin Key (Kee) and passed away at home; also surviving were their sons, Nelius, Jr., William J, Oscar, Willie, and Harvey; and daughters, Mary, Rosie, Carrie, Dorothy and Carolyn; One sister, Ammie Key of Eatonton, GA; and brother, Toney Mathis, Jr. of Macon, GA; a half sister, Estella Farley Mathis; 46 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was a quiet soul who dearly loved his family. We miss him so much.
