Mrs. Etta Essie C. Sims Davenport was the youngest of 13 children born to the late Reverend David Sims and Mrs. Lillie Rutledge Sims. Her father died when she was four, and she was raised by her mother and brother, the late Reverend James H. Sims, Sr. Grandma Etta was educated in the Oconee County School System. She was a faithful member of Oconee Baptist Church from 1932 until 1997. She became affiliated with the Greater Saint John and First Canaan Baptist Churches, and she served with the Willing Workers and was President of the Mother Board. Grandma Etta was recognized by former Ambassador, the Honorable Andrew Young, for her work with the Henry W. Grady Hospital Foster Grandparents Program. Grandma Etta expressed love for everyone she met.

Grandma fed those who came by her home if they were hungry, provided clothes, guidance and advice to young people and expressed a love for God. She once said if she had arms long enough, she would reach around the world and hug everyone. Just to let them know they were loved. Her remarks to everyone who visited before they left was, "pray along the way". She is missed more than words can express.

In 1930, she married Henry "Buddy" Davenport, Jr. whom she cherished for 53 years, until his passing. She was preceded in death by sons Edgar Hugh and James Carey Davenport. She leaves to cherish a life of love and service to others, six sons and seven daughters; fifty-two grandchildren, sixty-eight great-grandchildren, eleven great-great grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, extended family and life-long friends. Rev. Hoyt Smith, Pastor, Oconee Baptist, officiated.
