Marvin Jacob Benfield

Marvin Jacob Benfield, 93, of Icard Ridge Rd., Hickory, N.C. passed away Sunday, June 17, 2007, at Carolina Rehab of Burke following a brief illness.

He was born in Alexander County October 22, 1913, the son of the late Abner Monrow Benfield and Callie Houck Benfield Fox.

He was a member of Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was retired from Hickory Chair. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he served during World War II. Mr. Benfield also served as an Alexander County Commissioner.

He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Helen B. Sigmon and husband Gene of Bethlehem; two sons, and daughters-in-laws: Max Benfield and wife Annasue of Charleston, S.C., and Don Benfield and wife Melissa of Elizabethtown, Ky.; two grandsons, Brian Sigmon and wife Marci of Bethlehem and Todd Benfield and wife Alexis of Charleston, S.C.; three granddaughters: Niki Hewett and husband Wayne of Cornelius, Heather Benfield of Raleigh, and Amber Walker and husband Andy of Louisville, Ky.; a step granddaughter, Hannah Grimes of Elizabethtown, Ky., a great grandson, Jon-Michael Walker of Louisville, Ky.; three great-granddaughters, Chase Benfield and Jordan Benfield, both of Charleston, S.C., and Anna Elizabeth Hewett of Cornelius.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pheribee Inez Icard Benfield; brothers, Charlie Benfield, and Floyd, Woodrow, and Clyde Fox; and three sisters, Gertrude Hall, Mamie Kuykendale, and Ola Lewis.

Interment was in the Pisgah Cemetery.
