Son of John Davis and his wife Elizabeth Adams. Joel was born in North Carolina, probably near Newbern, and moved to Georgia. His wife, Winifred Hardison (also buried here) was born in Georgia and they were married about 1831. Joel and Winifred founded the farm known as Elm Hill, a few miles from here in Washington Co., and are the progenitors of the extensive Davis clan in this area. They had at least 12 children, six of whom are buried in this cemetery. Joel died after 1880.
