James was born to Claudis Otto and Esther Marie (White) Anderson on February 18, 1940 in Glencoe, Oklahoma. He attended Ripley Public Schools and Whitaker State in Pryor. He was employed by Swan as a hose assembly, National Standard as a material handler, and Mercury as a dye cast. He was a member of Cimarron Valley Church and enjoyed spending time on a tractor.
On March 5, 1959 he married Harriet "Sam" Damron in Manhattan, Kansas.
He is preceded in death by his son James Austin Anderson.
Members of his family include wife Harriet "Sam" Anderson; daughter Christine Maul; son Tony Anderson and wife Kathy; one brother; one sister; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.
