ST. GEORGE -- Deward L. Hall, age 89, passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at Porter's Nursing & Rehabilitation in St. George. He was born January 10, 1915 in Escalante, Utah, a son of Amos Wesley and Sarah Lovina Griffin Hall.
He married Nora Barlocker, of Enterprise, Utah, on September 9, 1936 in the St. George Temple. Deward served as Sheriff and had farming interests in Enterprise. He enjoyed boxing and was an accomplished musician. He worked in mining during WWII, later moving to Page, Arizona where he managed a motel. When they returned to the St. George area, Deward worked for Dixie College for many years.
Deward was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in many callings to include, Stake Missionary, Sunday School Superintendent, Executive Secretary, and Temple Worker. He and Nora also served a full-time mission in Australia.
Surviving family include his wife, Nora; all of his children, Maurine (Clark) Anderson, Leon (Carolee) Hall, Arthur S. (Angie) Hall, Valerie Hall McClean, and Burdell W. (Stormy) Hall; 22 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 7, 2004 at 10:00 a.m. at the St. George Stake Center, 500 N. and Bluff St., St. George. Viewings will be held Sunday, June 6, 2004 from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Spilsbury Mortuary and Monday from9:00 to 10:00 a.m., prior to services, at the Stake Center. Interment will be in the Enterprise City Cemetery. Arrangements are made under the direction of Spilsbury Mortuary, 110 S. Bluff St., St. George, UT, (435) 673-2454.
