Charles Saxon Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Oct. 1, 2013.
Charles (Chuck) was born in Oak Park Minnesota on December 18th 1925 to Lewis and Emma Saxon. He passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on October 1st, 2013. He was the second to the youngest of nine siblings. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Louise P. Saxon ( Pat ), sons Charles and Steven, daughter Patricia, younger brother Bill and sister Caroline who just celebrated her 100th birthday. Chuck grew up on the family farm in Foley, Minn. where he survived the Great Depression. He found work, as a young teen, hopping trains from Minn. to as far north as the Dakotas to help other farmers harvest their crops. He enlisted in the Navy in 1944 where he eventually achieved the high rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. He mostly worked the engine rooms of seven different war ships as a Boilerman during his 23 year career. He survived three wars (WWII, Korean and Vietnam ) and finished his career as a boot camp / firearms instructor. After passing all requirements to achieve the Navy's highest enlisted rank of Master Chief Petty Officer, Chuck retired from the Navy in 1966 before being promoted. Soon after retirement, he took a job as a supervisor working the General Engineering plant that serviced the Mission Valley shopping center in San Diego. He again retired for the second time at age 65. Chuck enjoyed working with his hands and could build and fix just about anything. He loved to watch boxing and was in fact a boxer in the navy with a group called "the smokers". He was undefeated. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He thoroughly enjoyed his annual trips to Minnesota and hunting with his brothers high up in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. Chuck may have started life as poor farm boy, but this fact never held him down. He achieved much and had a great, fulfilling life. He was a loving husband, great father and wonderful grand / great grandfather. He was dearly loved and will be sorely missed.
