Aubrey Lee Barton, a lifelong resident of Baker County, passed away on the morning of Monday, January 22, 2024 at UF Health Shands of Jacksonville at the age of 79. Aubrey was born on February 11, 1944 in Macclenny to Mr. E W and Alma Lee (Register) Barton. He went on to be a plumber and pipefitter right out of high school, but his work was interrupted as he was drafted into the United States Army. He proudly served his country, fighting in Vietnam during the war. Upon his return, Aubrey went back to work and dedicated over thirty years of his life to W.W. Gay, where he would eventually retire.

In his younger years, Mr. Barton enjoyed hunting and being outdoors. A lifelong pastime, however, was farming. He loved to tend to his vegetables and to take care of his cows. After a long day of hard work, Mr. Barton enjoyed a cold drink. In his later years, he enjoyed sitting down and playing solitaire and drinking his coffee.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother-in-law: Robert Combs; sister-in-law: Maria Barton; and his loving wife of forty-five years: Mrs. Corrine Barton.

He is survived by his only child, Ms. Virginia (Jeremy Rourke) Higginbotham of Glen St. Mary; grandchildren: Tiffany (Taylor) Mynes, Austin (Ashley) Smith, Justin Smith, and Morgan (Skyler) Higginbotham; great-grandchildren: Anistyn, Paisley, Taylor, Houston, Tanner, and Jaxx; siblings: Bobby Ray Barton and Rachel Combs both of Baker County; and nieces and nephews: Rachelle (Dale) Crews, Robbie (Melissa) Combs, Brenton (Wendy) Barton, and Brittany (Chris) Randle.

The family will receive friends in the chapel of Forbes Funeral Home on Sunday, January 28, 2024 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM. Graveside services will be held Monday, January 29, 2024 at 2:00 PM at South Prong Cemetery with Rev. David Thomas officiating.

Pallbearers will be Robbie Combs, Brenton Barton, Austin Smith, Dale Crews, Taylor Mynes, and Ryan Taylor.
