Merchant, father of Henrik Ibsen.
Knud Ibsen was a merchant in Skien and was the father of the playwright Henrik Ibsen. He was raised by his stepfather Ole Paus and his mother Johanne Paus née Plesner at the farm Rising in Gjerpen, that his stepfather bought in 1799. Socially, he was a member of the Paus family, and he was the only person in the area with the family name Ibsen until he had children of his own. Through the Paus family Knud was raised as a close relative of his would-be wife Marichen, although they were not closely related biologically.
