James Erwin "Jim" Thibodeaux was called to be with his Beloved God and Savior at 10:10 a.m. on Friday, January 12, 2024. Jim was born and reared in Brusly, Louisiana, the fourth son of John Raymond Thibodeaux, Sr., and Edvidge Robeau Thibodeaux.

Jim was educated in the West Baton Rouge Parish School System where he excelled on and off the field. He played and lettered in football, baseball, track, and basketball, graduating in 1951 with an LSU Football Scholarship. Yet like many young patriotic Americans of his generation, he instead enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and married his first love, Lucy Lorraine Hebert. Jim served in the Korean Conflict. Upon his return home, he served the rest of his duty at the Marine Corps Base in Albany, Georgia, where he earned the rank of Staff Sergeant, eventually being honorably discharged.

Jim returned to civilian life and welcomed his beloved son Keith Jude Thibodeaux, with whom he committed himself to throughout his life. Jim provided a secure upbringing for his son and family, through hard work where for many years he was employed as the Service Manager for McInnis-Peterson Chevrolet in Baton Rouge, eventually being recruited, and accepting the position of Vehicle Operations Manager for the Parish of East Baton Rouge until his retirement.

Jim was an avid sportsman who loved to fish, trap, and hunt, with deer hunting being his greatest skill both with rifle and bow. After hunting seasons and following his marriage to his much-loved wife, Helen Irene Fitzgerald, his time was spent traveling and in his large spring and summer gardens, where Jim yielded tomatoes, cabbage, melons, peppers – enough to share with family and friends. He and Keith had an ongoing 'largest tomato contest' for years, with each one having bragging rights until the next season.

Most of all Jim loved his family and friends. He was loyal and devoted to all of them. When Keith married his wife, Celeste, Jim welcomed her into the family with love, support, and guidance, as he did his beloved son. In later years and after the passing of his dearest Helen, Jim would often say he, Keith and Celeste were now his 'little family of four, never forgetting to include his Jeanerette-based furry companion, Will. Keith and Celeste along with Jim's many friends and relatives will live on to treasure these memories of family, warmth, and love - the greatest of gifts.

Jim is survived by his son, Keith Jude Thibodeaux and wife, Celeste LeJeune Thibodeaux; his very special and loved nephew, Gerald 'Buzzy' Thibodeaux and wife, Diane, many other nieces and nephews, and special friends, Marlene, Jim's ever devoted friend and caretaker and Vance, a friend who reminded Jim of himself during his younger years and whose strength in character Jim admired.

Jim is preceded in death by his wife, Helen Fitzgerald Thibodeaux; the mother of his son, Lucy Lorraine Hebert; his parents, John Raymond Thibodeaux, Sr., and Edvidge Robeau Thibodeaux; four brothers, Raymond Thibodeaux Jr., Larry Thibodeaux, Gerald Thibodeaux and Hubert Thibodeaux; and five sisters, Cecile LeJeune, Elsie Parsons, Gloria Alexandry, Marceline Naquin and Nydia Doiron.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, with visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Brusly, Louisiana. A Mass of Christian Burial, celebrated by Reverand Arun John will begin at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in the church mausoleum.

Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, 402 S. Kirkland Drive, Brusly, La. 70719.
