COLUMBUS---John Thomas Hall, 85, retired head mechanic for Seminole Manufacturing Co., died...Wednesday at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Golden Triangle.
Services are 2 p.m. today at Beersheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church with burial in the church cemetery. Gunter & Peel Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mr. Hall, a native of the McCrary community near Columbus, was an elder at Beercheba Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He graduated from New Hope School and later served as a trustee on the school board. He was a World War II Army veteran, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of his local Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4272. He worked for Seminole Manufacturing 46 years.
"He was real kind," said his son, Thomas L. Hall of Columbus. "He hardly ever said a harsh word about anything. He wasn't critical, but real positive."
Hall said his father had been retired for many years, and enjoyed keeping active by working around the house. "He cut firewood ---he liked stuff like that --- and gardening," he said. "He had a lot of fruit trees."
Mr. Hall's pastor, the Rev, Dwayne Tyus, said he had been an elder at Beersheba for many years. "He was very faithful to the end, always here, and always had the church and the church's people in his heart," Tyus said. "At one time or another, he was involved in every activity this church has ever had. He was still very active in a lot of things, although he didn't teach anymore, and he had turned a lot of it over to the younger people. He was someone who was always looked up to for direction."
Other survivors include: wife, Ida; and two grandsons.
