Past Elected General Assembly stated clerk of the Presbyterian Church in the United States (PCUS) serving from 1973 until his retirement in 1996; he was the key leader in the 1983 merger of the United Presbyterian Church (USA) and the Presbyterian Church in the United States. Born in Whittenburg, Hutchinson County, TX, he attended the Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Texas where he eared his theology degree, and was ordained in 1956. Survived by his second wife Elizabeth Andrews; two children, Charis Hansberry of Suwanee, GA and Bryan Andrews of Logan, AL; and four grandsons. His first wife, Patricia Bulock of Lockhart, died in 1959.
