Jerome Dane Beer, 85, of Guymon, Oklahoma, went to be with his Lord and Savior on January 10, 2024.
Jerome was born on September 18, 1938, in Hooker, OK at Mrs. Fooshee's nursing home. He is the third child of Charles and Minta Beer and was raised on a farm north of Guymon. He has lived and worked the land near his childhood home his entire life. At the age of 5, Jerome began farming when his dad put him on a tractor utilizing a pull-type combine. A rope holding him to the seat passed as safety measures at that time. This early experience fostered a passion for farming that lasted a lifetime.
Jerome is survived by his wife of 64 years, Ladene, daughter Angela Campbell of Perryton, Texas, son Galynn Beer (Lisa) of Guymon, Oklahoma; grandchildren Heather Sessing (Mark) of Moore, Ok, Brooke Clevenger (James) of Purcell, Ok, Blake Campbell (Janell) of Perryton, Tx, Christin Beer of Tulsa, Ok, and Courtney Beer of Dallas, Tx, as well as nine great grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Kathy Rosebure, Janet Landess, and Gerald Beer.
He is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Theresa Stoddard, Charles Rodney Beer, and Curtis Beer.
Jerome began his education at Brown's Corner Schoolhouse, then attended Straight School and subsequently Guymon High School. After briefly attending Panhandle State University, he married Ladene Ramsey on January 15th, 1960, and they embarked on their life together on the farm in the Hough Community. Farm income was supplemented with outside income by helping with construction of local highways and working for other farmers leveling land for flood irrigation. Eventually, a partnership with his brother, Gerald Beer, established a farm entity that would consist of irrigated and dryland crops, as well as raising livestock.
In the early 80s Jerome earned his private pilot's license. Jerome and Gerald subsequently purchased an airplane which they utilized for chasing parts as well as traveling for pleasure. This resulted in some great experiences and entertaining stories . . .none of which were ever embellished of course. Other activities that Jerome enjoyed were snow skiing with family, dancing with Ladene, and cheering on his beloved Sooners, either in person or by watching the games on TV.
Church has always been a vital part of Jerome's life. He has been an active Methodist since childhood and has always volunteered in various capacities. He served on numerous boards and committees within the church and participated in fundraising dinners, mentored confirmation students, and loved singing in the choir where he had a natural talent for harmonizing.
Jerome always made it a priority to balance the demands of farming with spending time with family and making time to do the hobbies he enjoyed. He never met a stranger and loved engaging in conversation with family as well as complete strangers. During his life, he had a positive impact on many others.
