Born in Rome, the daughter of Ezio Carabella, she studied acting at the Silvio D'Amico Academy of Dramatic arts, she started stage acting with the Orazio Costa company, then with the Luchino Visconti company. She married Marcello Mastroianni in 1950, and they had a daughter, Barbara. In 1976, she offered to adopt her husband's daughter by Catherine Denevue. Her films include I basilischi (1963), II messia (1975), Culastrisce nobile veneziano (1976), Casotto (1977), A night full of rain (1978), Viuuulentemente mia (1982), Journey with papa (1982), State buoni se potete (1983), La Cage aux Folles 3: The Wedding (1985), Donne in un giorno di festa (1993), and Quando finiranno le zanzare (1994). She died from a bone tumor.
