She was a true Angeleno, loving the temperate weather and lifestyle. Her childhood was filled with the love of reading, roller skating to the library, and living through the depression era. She would often recall her trips on the Red Car, seeing double-feature movies, Buck Rogers serials, and enjoying the popovers at Bullock's Wilshire; in later years, she enjoyed a weekly Mexican tostada with a side of pico de gallo. Even at her 95 years of age, people remarked on her sharp wit, sense of humor, and great joy of life.
She married Lucien Jean Boyer (1925-2020) in a lovely garden wedding in 1947. Lu and Dru, as everyone knew them, shared 73 years of a happy marriage. Drusilla was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a great friend. People naturally turned to her for advice and comfort, as she had a warm and open nature.
Dru had a great joy for life. She was that person who would honk the car horn in a tunnel to hear the echo and make the kids laugh. Dru was a woman of many talents. She was an expert seamstress and baker known for her cakes. People often remarked that her cakes tasted as good as they looked! Her specialty was wedding cakes. With Lu's help, they created beautiful memories for many couples. She enjoyed cooking and even took a Chinese cooking class. Her recipe box is a gold mine of sweets and savories.
As a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Torrance, she served as a board member, participated in Stephen Ministry, and was a frequent organizer of the annual Christmas Smorgasbord. She was strong in her faith, attending church throughout her life.
Dru is survived by her two daughters, Yvonne (husband, Leonard) and Dawn (husband, David); grandchildren Brian, Lisa and Weston and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a private family service. Her ashes will be interred at Inglewood Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Christ the King Lutheran Church, 2706 West 182nd Street, Torrance, CA 90504.
