Mary Muriel Aune Obituary

Mary Muriel Aune, age 93, of Gaylord, formerly of Oscoda, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 31, 2023 at The Porches Assisted Living in Gaylord.
She was born on Nov. 30, 1930 in Bromley, Kent, England to the late Harold F. and Ivy Claire (Sanders) Wren. Mary graduated from the Royal Academy of Music and Drama in London, England. She married Donald Richard Aune on Feb. 18, 1952 in Bungay, Suffolk, England.
Mary was a devoted military wife and mother, who took pride in raising her family as they traveled across the world with the United States Air Force. After Don's retirement from the military, Mary and Don returned to Oscoda and became active members of the community.
Mary was the director of the Miss Iosco County Pageant, a field director for Miss Michigan Scholarship Program and was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda, serving on the Altar Society for many years. She was also very proud of becoming a United States citizen in 1994.
In her spare time, Mary enjoyed cooking, gardening, needlepoint and loved to entertain family and friends in her home.
She is survived by her loving children, Christopher (Sherry) Aune and Nicholas (Karen) Aune; grandchildren, Cory (Kristin), Chad, Justin, Colin (Janette) and Peter; great grandchildren, Finley, Ashlyn, Mason, Owen and Penelope. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Don; daughter, Theresa Claire and brother, Peter Wren.
The family will welcome friends on Thursday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass beginning at 11 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oscoda. Mary will be laid to rest next to her husband, Don, in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.
