Ronald Richard Malzer
1946 - 2023
VETERAN

Ronald Richard Malzer was born May 21, 1946, in Los Angeles, California, to Velda C. Bowman Malzer and Edward James "Mike" Malzer. He passed from this life on December 27, 2023, at the age of 77.

He is survived by his wife, Linda; six children: Wendy (Matt) Anderson, Andrew (Emily) Malzer, Angela (Chris) Carter, Leann (Sid) Barzee, Jodie (Jon) Barron, and Brendalyn (Eric) Embley; 23 grandchildren and his sister, Marla (Ben) Trahan.

Ron grew up in California around the Mojave Desert, graduated from Antelope Valley High School, and attended one semester at Antelope Valley Junior College. He worked for a year at NASA, Edwards Air Force Base, and then in December 1965, accepted a call to serve in New Zealand as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Six months after returning from his mission, Ron enlisted in the United States Army to become a calibration specialist. He went to school for one year in Maryland, served for two years in Germany, and was in the reserve for two years.

Ron and Linda met after his mission and before the Army, and wrote letters while he was in Germany. Linda had moved to Utah, so Ron drove out to see her as soon as he was released. They were engaged two days later, and were married on September 4, 1971, in the Los Angeles California Temple, and have celebrated 52 years together living in Orem, Utah.

Ron worked as a General Contractor building homes and remodeling for 38 years, and then hired on at Utah Valley Regional Medical Center (returned to the name Utah Valley Hospital in 2016) in the carpentry department. He retired in June 2011.

Ron has served faithfully in many and various callings as a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but one of his favorites has been serving as a volunteer service missionary at the church welfare farm for the last 14 years.

Ron is loved by many people for his selfless service and interest in those he met. He made friends wherever he went, and loved to help others. He will be greatly missed.
