DURHAM: Annie Lou Walker Andrews, 101, passed away on Thursday, December 28, 2023 at her home in Durham. She was born in Durham to the late Roy Jones Walker and Viola Wheeler Walker. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Andrews was also predeceased by her husband of 35 years, James "Jack" Andrews; son, James "Jim" Andrews II; son-in-law, Johnny Russell; brothers, Norman Walker, Roy Jones Walker Jr.; and sisters, Rosalind Woolard, Charline Walker.
Mrs. Andrews retired in 1984 from American Tobacco after 35 years of service having obtained that rank of Office Supervisor. She also volunteered at Durham Regional Hospital for 10 years. She enjoyed traveling for 9 years with Betty Moore Tours.
Mrs. Andrews is survived by daughter, Joanna Russell; daughter in law, Rosalie Andrews; grandchildren, Marc Francis (Pam), Lee Francis, Joseph Francis (Cristina), Joye Ashby, John Andrews (Yetka), James Andrews III (Alesia); 16 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, January 3rd at Clements Funeral Chapel in Durham with Rev. Daniel Tilley, Dr. Ben Francis and Dr. Marc Francis officiating. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in Maplewood Cemetery. Pallbearers will include Joseph Francis, Samuel Woolard, Alexander Francis, Dale Woolard, Dennis Woolard and Kenny Walker.
