Born August 7, 1926, in Czechoslovakia, she came to America by ship to Ellis Island with her parents, Joseph and Anna (nee Janko) Gdovin, at age five. Aggie lived in New York City for three years before moving to Lorain.
She attended Holy Trinity Grade School and graduated in 1944 from Clearview High School where she was a cheerleader. Aggie worked as an assembler for ten years at Lorain Products, retiring in 1990.
She was a member of the former Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Lorain, St. Peter Parish in Lorain, and St. Ann's Lodge Branch #114 of the First Catholic Slovak Ladies Union.
She enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing cards, and vacationing in Florida.
Surviving are her sons, John T. (Cheryl) Herda, Richard Herda, Kenneth Herda all of Lorain, and Dale Herda of S. Amherst; a daughter, Joanne (Paul) Grandon of Amherst; 18 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and many great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, John M. Herda, in 2005; and sisters, Helen Shullick, Lillian Pena, and Margaret Delinsky.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 2nd from 11:00 a.m. until the time of mass at 12:00 p.m. at St. Peter Parish, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Rev. Craig M. Hovanec, pastor will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Aggie can be made to the Blessing House, 6115 Olivet Avenue, Elyria, Ohio 44035.
