Charles was passionate about serving his country as a Military Police officer in the US Air Force. While in the Armed Forces he served in 3 campaigns. (WWII, Korea War and Vietnam) He joined October 21st, 1952 and retired January 1st, 1973. He was a police officer in various roles for 44 years following his Air force retirement until ultimately retiring in 1994.

Charles was an active member of Highland Park Baptist. Over the years he served as a deacon, layman, Sunday school teacher, and serving within various needs of the church. He was an active Mason of the 33 degree at the Carolina Lodge 375 in Hanahan, SC.

It was hard to sum up Charlie in one word, so we'll leave you with several; devoted Christian, loving husband, dad, step-dad, father-n-law, granddaddy, papa, friend, deacon, and caring neighbor. He was driven by his strong love for the Lord and his great devotion to his family and friends. He died peacefully surrounded by family in his home, and is joyously pain free with the Lord.

Everyone who knew Charles knew how much he loved Baseball and that a game was always going to be on. He was even scouted as a young man for the Boston Red Sox. Another incredibly favored past time, was around the dining room table playing cards. Every chance he could get would be hours of game play well into the evening, still looking for that "one card, one card" to finish a great winning hand. Charlie will always be remembered for so many things, as some of the best moments can always be the simple ones too. Anyone walking into the house would see him in his chair reading the paper thoroughly, the covert power napper that could hold that same paper up without wavering and still express indignantly that he "wasn't sleeping", going "for a drive" meant stopping for Wendy's ice cream on the way back, "stepping out" was a walk around the block for miles at a time or just meeting a friend for coffee, and he was an admirable example of what it meant to lead your family and home well. We couldn't have asked for a better cornerstone to our family, we will miss Charles and imagine hearing him say "alright, love you, take care, God Bless, bye-bye" one more time.
