Robert was born June 28, 1921, in Fort Pierre, SD the son of Ernest A. and Ida Cornelia (Anderson) Hedman.
Robert served his country in the United States Army during WWII and then in the Air Force Reserve where he retired as an officer.
He was a rancher in South Dakota before becoming a research hydrologist with the U.S. Geological Survey until he retired in 1980.
He was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed golfing, engineering, and embraced computer technology. Most importantly he enjoyed being a husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, A. Marjorie (Elrod) Hedman.
Other survivors include, two daughters, nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Lyle.
The family will greet friends from 3:30 – 5:30 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015, at Warren-McElwain Mortuary in Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made in his name to the Trinity Lutheran Church or South Dakota State Historical Society and may be sent in care of the mortuary.
