Joe was born December 2, 1958 in Akron, Ohio, to his late father, Joseph Charles Murphy Jr. and his surviving mother, Mary Jane Murphy. Joe was the youngest of 4 siblings; Catherine, Thomas and John.

Joe was a loving husband, great father, best friend, soulmate, and a chauffeur as he enjoyed "Driving Miss Debbie" around. Joe had a strong bond with man's best friend, loved to travel, golf, be on the water, and read. He was a spiritual man who loved God. Joe loved and served his country. In the Air Force was where he found his love for airplanes and working on them. Joe would become a great father. He taught his boys how to work on things when they were younger; which has led them to careers in construction, building some of Atlanta's best buildings.
