Gale R. Downey Jr., 55 of Canal Fulton, died Friday September 7, 1990. He was born in Akron and was a life resident of the area. He was a former Corporal in the State Highway Patrol for 1 years, stationed in Ravenna and Elyria and was with G.M.A.C. Canton for the past 21 years. He was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, where he served as a Deacon, Choir member and on the Church Council. He was also a member of the Hall of Fame Chorus for the past seven and one half years and served in the U.S. Army in Germany.

He is survived by wife, Joanne H. (Naus) formerly of Kenmore; daughters Diane Y. Horrell of Columbus and Denise R. Downey of Bedford; sons, Gale R. Downer III of Massillon and Lance C. Downey of Massillon; grandchildren Nicole Renea, Alyssa Ellen and Krystina Marie; brothers, Gerald H. Downey of Brimfield and Phillip W. Downey of Canal Fulton; sister, Edith Ann of Canal Fulton; many nieces and nephews; aunt Ruth Howland of North Canton.

Funeral services, Monday, 1 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Canal Fulton, Rev. Robin McCullough officiating. Interment Crown Hill Cemetery in Twinsburg. Friends may call Sunday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Swigart Funeral Home and one hour prior to services at the Church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Sound System Fund, St. John Lutheran Church Canal Fulton. (Swigart, 854-2356.)
