Lois Virginia Gerakinis, age 89, passed away in her home surrounded by her family on July 4, 2022. She was born during a blizzard to Rev. Frank and Irma (Langworthy) Cooper on December 16, 1932, in Evart, MI.

As a child, Lois enjoyed being a member of Evart Calvary Baptist Church, after being saved at the age of 7. She was active in the church for VBS and Sunday school, as well as playing the piano. While attending Evart high school, she participated in band, glee club, and drama club, and would later graduate as valedictorian. Lois was heavily influenced by the missionary speakers she saw growing up.

Lois attended Moody Bible Institute and later Swedish Covenant Hospital School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse. She spent a significant amount of time in Seoul, Korea working with the Holt Adoption Program. There, Lois would help transport children from Korea to their new families in the United States. She also often worked in the summers as a camp counselor and nurse at Lake Ocqueoc Camp as well as Happy Day Camp in Ann Arbor. After coming home and working part time as a nurse in Reed City, Lois decided she wasn't quite ready to settle down and applied for a missionary service in Bangladesh. It was on a ship to her missionary destination that she met the love of her life, a Greek crew sailor, named Anastasios Gerakinis. Language barrier aside, they fell in love.

Anastasios and Lois were married in Skopelos, Greece on November 28, 1965. Shortly after, the newlyweds came back to Michigan and started their family. They were very involved with Trinity Baptist Church, helping out with their own children's school programs, as well as Awana, VBS, and the music missions committee. Lois would continue to be an active parishioner for 55 years. Once her children were in school, Lois went back to work third shift as a nurse at Villa Elizabeth Nursing Home. After working all night taking care of her residents, she wouldn't hesitate to drive the kids to school after they missed their bus.

Lois also volunteered with the Living Message Fellowship, helping out with the mailings.

If you were visiting with Lois, she always made sure you were well fed. Her family remembers walking in the door and were immediately asked, "Are you hungry? Do you need something to eat?" That was the kind of wife, mom, grandma, nurse, and person Lois was; she cared so deeply for those around her.

Lois is survived by her son James (Heather) Gerakinis; son-in-law Edward Tripp; grandchildren Micah Gerakinis, Jessie Gerakinis, Jenna Gerakinis, Joshua Tripp, Josiah Tripp, and Jenessa Tripp; sisters Helen Squires, Margaret (Mick) Gondick; brothers-in-law Jack (Sue) Cook, Panayote Gerakinis, and Spiros Gerakinis; and sister-in-law Lily Hatidrosis; Along with many loved Neices and Nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Anastasios; daughter Joyce Tripp; parents Frank and Irma Cooper; brother Dwight Cooper; sisters Frances Cook and Joyce Ann Cooper.

A visitation will take place on Sunday, July 10 from 4:00 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Reyers North Valley Chapel. Funeral services will take place on Monday, July 11 at 11:00 a.m. with visiting one hour prior at Trinity Baptist Church. Burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Cemetery.
