Malcolm Wallace Birnell was born Feb. 22, 1900, near Devil's Lake, N.D. to Mr. & Mrs. Wallace Birnel. After the death of his father he made his home with his uncle from the age of eight years.
Following World War 1, he spent three enlistments in the Army as a mechanice most of which was in Hawaii. After discharge he moved to Hamilton, Mont. where he married Ellen Rogers on June 5, 1937. The family lived there until moving to Hungry Horse in 1939 where Mr. Birnel, 53, died July 1. He had been in poor health for some time.
He is survived by his widow, Helen Christine, at home and seven children: Bruce Malcolm, Kenneth David, Mary Jane, Forrest Duraine, Anna May, Robert Earl and Shirley Ellen, all at home in Hungry Horse; two brothers and one sister, Anna Hoskins of Reno, Nev.
