Mr. Thompson retired from the military in 1961 and was a longtime resident of Whitefish, Mont, where he worked for the Great Northern Railroad. He later transferred to Spokane retiring from Burlington Northern Railroad.
Mr. Thompson moved to Sandpoint in 1996 and was a member of the United Methodist Church, Spokane Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the Spokane Valley Eagles Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandy.
Survivors include two sons, Kenneth Thompson of Washington D.C., and Robert Thompson of Olympia, Wash; two daughters, Anne Thompson of Spokane and Charlotte Jydstrup of Sandpoint; two sisters, five brothers; eight grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Private services will be held at a later date. Cofelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
